Clockwork Prince

Author: Cassandra Clare
Pages: 497
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry
Format: Paperback (ARC)
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Summary (from Goodreads)In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

A HUGE thank-you goes out to Ambur for sending me her extra ARC!!!
My Summary: It's been a few weeks since Nate betrayed Tessa and the Shadowhunters - a few weeks since Tessa's illusion of her life before was shattered. And just when she'd thought she'd found solace in Will, Tessa discovers just what he really thinks of her. After so much heartbreak, no one would blame her for giving up.
But Tessa is surviving. Thanks to Jem's presence, she is beginning to feel comfortable in the Institute and, more importantly, in her own skin. She's learning to control her powers and use them to help the Shadowhunters, but it's not enough - they still haven't been able to locate the Magister or find a way to take him down.
As Will pulls away from Tessa, she finds herself clinging to Jem... and realizing that maybe there is a way to be happy after your heart's been broken.
My Thoughts: Guys, you have no idea what this book did to me. It chewed me up and spit me out and then kicked me while I was down. And the worst part? I have to wait a whole month until you guys read it to rant to you because I refuse to be spoily-McSpoilerton!
The writing was awesome. I love the way Cassie's writing portrays the Victorian era: it's dark and gritty but also makes you wish you were there. The character development in this installment was amazing - you really get to see Tessa, Will, and Jem mature and grow. There are some great steamy scenes, and the end... I'm not going to tell you who I'm rooting for (I was undecided after the last book), but I will tell you this: my first attempts at writing a review for this books looked a little something like: LKJSLKSL&MLMFM#%^MOIYIUWR*TI^YWYOYG!!@GFRSGGFFFDHHHGKSKK WHY WHY WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!
Final Thoughts: If you've already read Clockwork Angel and loved it, there are no doubts in my mind that you'll adore Clockwork Prince. Do yourself a huge favour and pre-order it now!  And if you haven't read this series (or Cassie's other series): WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

  5. I consider myself to be very lucky to get my hands on a Collector's Edition of Clockwork Prince! I got to read the note Will Herondale wrote in Clockwork Angel. Now on to my review. The book was amazing. I can't find a word to describe it. At first, I liked the first book better than the second, but the ending totally made me change my mind, so I love both of them equally.
