I totally forgot it was Friday... Anyways, on with the show!
This week's question:
Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

Ok, I know I'm going to be judged for this, but I'll say it anyway...
The first book I picked up from another genre was The Host. And like everybody else on the planet, I only picked it up because it was written by Stephenie Meyer. There, I said it. Feel free to judge.
But the thing was, I read it... and loved it. I'd never read anything even remotely similar, and it was like this huge surprise - finding out that there were these whole other genres with whole other books that were kick-ass and entertaining and awesome. From that time on, I wouldn't shy away from books people recommended from other genres (which probably explains why my TBR pile is taller than I am at this point). How about you guys?
It's always good to try new genres, you never know what you might like.

Funny, my answer was also Stephenie Meyer, but Twilight. I'd never read much paranormal, especially vampire, books before then. The Host was natural for me to read, but I already love a nice soft scifi.

Hey if the book help opens your mind up to knew genres and books you never would have considered before then I say give the book credit :). I have a couple of friends who say that the Twilight series introduced them to paranormal YA so yeah I'm not a Twilight fan but then I wouldn't have them to talk about other paranormal YA books with if they hadn't come across Twilight first.

I picked up the Host for the same reason (but I disliked Twilight and I wanted to find out if this one was better), but I couldn't get through it. So I'm glad that you loved it so much! :) And that it changed your habits.

Hahaha! No judging here. The Host remains one of my favorite novels even though I've read a LOT. Thanks for your thoughts.

Lol it's okay. That's the main reason why I read the host as well, but I'm glad because I absolutely loved it too! My friend mentioned the book to me and told me what it was about and I was like, "Really? A book about aliens taking over the world... I THOUGHT YOU KNEW ME, JERK NUGGET!" Lol jk, but turns out she did because that book is just epic!!

I love surprises! I've heard such good things about The Host but haven't dived in yet. Glad you enjoyed it.
