Spell Bound

Author: Kelley Armstrong
Pages: 352
Format: Paperback
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Summary (from Goodreads)Kelley Armstrong returns with an exciting new follow-up to her national bestselling book Waking the Witch.

Savannah Levine is in terrible danger, and for once she's powerless to help herself. At the conclusion of Waking the Witch, Savannah swore that she would give up her powers if it would help a young girl. Little did she know that someone would take her up on that promise.

And now, witch-hunting assassins, necromancers, half-demons and rogue witches all seem to be after her. The threat is not just for Savannah; every member of the Otherworld might be at risk. While most of her fellow supernaturals are circling the wagons at a gathering of the council in Miami, Savannah is caught on the road, isolated from those who can protect her and unable to use her vast spell-casting talent, the thing she counts on most. In a story that will change the shape of the Otherworld forever, Spell Bound gathers Elena, Clay, Paige, Lucas, Jaime, Hope and others, who soon learn that the greatest threat to supernaturals just may come from within.

My Summary: Only hours after solving a huge case, Savannah realizes there is something very, very wrong with her - her powers have disappeared. And to make matters worse, she's almost certain she traded them so that a little girl could get her grandmother back. But no amount of self-sacrifice is going to help her when there's a crazed witch-hunter on her tail, trying to kill her every chance she can get.

Even after ditching the hunter, Savannah can't seem to find a break; what begins with a visit to an old friend lands her smack dab in the middle of something huge - something that endangers the lives of every one of her friends and the entire future of the supernatural community.

My Thoughts: If you've ever read any of my other reviews of Kelley's books, you know she's probably my all-time-favourite paranormal author. I have read and adored every single one of her books and novellas, and Spell Bound was no exception! Savannah is an extremely likable character, and her narration was humourous and honest. The tension between her and Adam was enough to keep me on edge for the whole book - at one point I actually yelled "JUST RIP EACH OTHERS CLOTHES OFF ALREADY DAMMIT!" ... Don't judge.

The plot was amazing, pulling you in and not letting go until the final page. And all the characters we know and love appear in this one! I probably would have loved it for that reason alone, and I'm not even going to deny it. I'm so glad I forced myself to wait this long to read Spell Bound, because Kelley's last novel Thirteen comes out in a few days and waiting would have been torture after this ending. I cannot wait until the release of the next book!

Also (for any fans of Kelley's Darkest Powers series): the little mentions of some of the characters in that series made me all giddy and happy and I'm really hoping that the characters from DP are mentioned again or maybe even glimpsed or maybe we might get some info about the characters? That would be so awesome and I'm rambling and I've used the word 'and' way too many times in this sentence so I'm just going to stop now.

Final Thoughts: If you've never checked out anything by Kelley Armstrong, I highly recommend you do because then we can still be friends.

Kidding. Kind of.
