Uncommon Criminals

Author: Ally Carter
Pages: 298
Publisher: Hyperion
Format: Hardcover
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Summary (from Goodreads)Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life life. Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months she’s simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.

There are only three problems. First, the gem hasn’t been seen in public in thirty years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long, and in Kat’s world, history almost always repeats itself. But it’s the third problem that makes Kat’s crew the most nervous and that is simply… the emerald is cursed.

Kat might be in way over her head, but she’s not going down without a fight. After all she has her best friend—the gorgeous Hale—and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses, realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time.

Which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules.

My Summary
: Kat Bishop has been gone for a while. Six months after she and her crew pulled off the biggest heist of the century - robbing the Henley - she's off the grid, performing robin-hood type jobs and righting wrongs made by other thieves.
Kat has no inclination to return to the family business - until a mysterious woman approaches her, claiming something was taken from her family years ago, and she needs Kat's help to get it back: the Cleopatra Emerald. Now Kat must reunite with her team and pull off the one heist even her Uncle Eddie -the world's greatest thief - never managed to pull off. But could it be that Kat is in over her head this time?

My Thoughts: It's been over a year since I read Heist Society - the first book in this amazing series - but the moment I settled it to read Uncommon Criminals, it was as if no time had passed at all. Carter does such a great job re-introducing you to the characters and Kat's world that you never miss a beat.

The plot was so intricate and yet so easy to follow - it kept me hooked from start to finish. I love the atmosphere that Carter creates within these books, and the chemistry between Kat and Hale is enough to satisfy any romance junkie like myself.

Final Thoughts: I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance, adventure and action novels and is looking for something new and different to read - especially if you enjoyed Holly Black's Curse Workers series.

  1. Glad to see you liked this one– I still need to read Heist Society! I don't know why I haven't started it yet...it's sitting on my shelf, WAITING for me and I'm completely ignoring it. I love Carter's Gallagher Girls series, and so can't wait to start this one! Great review and I'm a new follower <3
